ANUP REJ Dr. Anup Rej, started his research in theoretical cosmology in 1980 while he was a guest researcher in the Unuversity of Bern. His interests started with higher order theory of gravity that originates from the string theory. He soon became sceptical of the main stream research in cosmology and since then has been searching to find an answer to his quest for the origin of the universe. A breakthorugh came when he got involved with a former colleague of him at the Department of Physics, University of Technology and Science, Trondheim, Norway in studying the origin of the gamma-ray bursts . It opened his interests in the fractal nature of the universe and phenomenon of turbulence prevalent in the cosmos. In 1998 he proposed a multifractal universe where trubulence and magnetic fields play more vital roles than the force of gravity in the formation of large scale structures. During the last ten years he has written many articles and a book ”Timelessness in Time”. His research mostly based on the analysis of the observed data in different wavelenghts, which started becoming available from the early 1990s, has in the end led him to find a convincing answer about the origin of the universe he has been seeking after. His undertsanding dramatically contradicts the view of the origin of the universe in a big-bang and the notion that high-energy activites at the centres of the cosmic structures are driven by black-holes. Before he got involved in cosmology and astrophysics he has worked in theoretical nuclear physics and elementary particle physics as postdoctoral and senior research fellow in different universities including the University of Oslo, University of Trondheim, and University of Mainz. He received his Ph. D. from the University of Calcutta in 1971 with the dissertation ”Elementary particle interactions with atomic nuclei :Photoproduction of Mesons off complex nuclei”. Before coming to Oslo on a government fellowship in the Department of Physics, University of Oslo he was a reserach fellow in the Research Institute, Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta. ANUP REJ is born in 1945 in Calcutta in an academic Bengali family. Possessing a multifaceted talent he grew up in Calcutta, while being exposed to both the Indian and the Western arts, philosophies, science and literature. As a child he developed interests in both arts and science. Though he chose science as his professional career arts (paintings, poetry) remained essential parts of his creative life. He had traveled widely in the world and lived in the US, Germany, Switzerland, South Korea and Thailand among others. His wife has served as the Norwegian Ambassador to South Korea, Thai-land, Burma and Cambodia. His paintings take the viewers through a vast landscape of the human mind and reveal a process of self-discovery that unites several disciplines of creativity to a common universal ground. His literary writing is a journey through the philosophies, religions and epics of the East and the West. Through his work one encounters the frontiers of knowledge of unprecedented dimensions.
